The Great Reef Census

Coral Watch integrates global monitoring of coral bleaching with education about coral reef conservation. They are based at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. In 2002, Coral Watch developed and validated the Coral Health Chart which is a simple, non-invasive tool to quantify coral bleaching and monitor coral health. The Coral Health Chart is used by dive centres, scientists, school groups and the reef tourism sector. Coral Watch produces books, DVDs and Reef Education Packages.

GBR Biology often use this citizen science tool in with our school and university groups involved in our Reef Education Programmes. Although, it is and excellent tool to provide some quantifiable information on Coral Bleaching, we also use in some of our research projects.
